ROY CHILDERS
CALDWELL OFFICE
Roy was raised on a small farm near the north central Texas town of Iowa Park. After graduation from high school. Roy came to Texas A&M University where he earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Agricultural Engineering. Following his college time, Roy spent the next 27 years working in the cotton ginning industry. He served as cotton mechanization specialist at Lubbock and then worked four years at the USDA Cotton Ginning Laboratory. In 1978 Roy was appointed as State Cotton Ginning and Mechanization Specialist for the Texas Agricultural Extension Service where he served until his retirement in 1997.
Roy is a Registered Professional Engineer with experience in air and water pollution control systems as well as cotton production, harvesting, handling and ginning equipment. He has done consulting work throughout the United States as well as in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Turkey, and the former Soviet State of Uzbekistan. These activities include permit work with state regulatory agencies, expert witness testimony, troubleshooting a cotton gin in the jungle, and a feasibility study and operational plan for a joint venture in Uzbekistan.
After retiring from A&M, Roy spent the next ten years working as an engineer in industry. However, his heart was always in agriculture and he continued to maintain many contacts in the industry over the years. Roy comments that "I am so excited to have the opportunity to be involved in agriculture once again."
Roy joined Southwest Agribusiness Consulting, Inc. in April of 2006. He has primary responsibility for working with customers in the Brazos Bottom and Central Texas Blacklands. He enjoys getting to know each of his customers and their individual requirements for marketing. Roy also takes care of organizing and coordinating the harvest operations in his territory. Most importantly, he has become the "Company Chef" with a reputation for cooking the best steaks anywhere in the world.
Roy and his wife Bryana have 5 grown children and 7 grandchildren. They reside in College Station, but spend most weekends at their country place outside of Caldwell. Roy enjoys collecting and showing old single cylinder engines. Look for him at a fair, festival or farm show near you.
