DEREK GIESLER
CORPUS CHRISTI OFFICE

Derek Giesler was raised in South Louisiana in the town of St. Gabriel. He grew up enjoying all that the outdoors had to offer, especially fishing in the gulf. You could usually find him casting a line in the surf every chance he got. While attending Louisiana State University, Derek held a variety of different jobs. He worked as a landscaper, tractor-trailer mechanic, and managed an auto repair shop. Many summers were spent working cattle on his grandfather's farm in Missouri.

After graduating with a degree in Agricultural Economics, Derek decided to leave his home state of Louisiana to find better opportunities in Texas. He was hired by the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in Austin. As an Agricultural Statistician, he worked on numerous projects that affected government agricultural policies. Much of his work required correspondence with farmers, agribusinesses and producer associations across Texas. Derek learned many aspects of Texas agriculture through extensive field work in all areas of the state.

As a consultant with Southwest Agribusiness Consulting, Derek works one-on-one with producers across South Texas and Louisiana to make informed marketing decisions using our risk management philosophy. As a licensed commodity broker, he has the knowledge and experience to make timely cash crop merchandising recommendations and make smart trading decisions regarding futures and options. Derek can also hedge the price risk of inputs such as fuel. Through these strategies, he believes price risk can be reduced while maintaining production flexibility. His primary concern is taking unknown risks, which are highly volatile and unpredictable markets, and reducing that risk into a manageable marketing plan.

Derek lives in Austin with his wife, Melani, and sons Tyler and Daniel. If you have any questions for Derek, he can be reached at:
